I’ve gotten back into reading fiction again, and this has inspired me to list which books I’d like to see adapted to film.

Monster Blood Tattoo series by D.M. Cornish. Mr. Cornish himself has stated that he sold the rights to his books to Jim Henson Company, and that the movies were in production. However, this was back in 2010, and he hasn’t said anything since. So, Jim Henson Company, get on it!

The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Disney completely ruined this series with the technologically innovating but otherwise disastrous The Black Cauldron animated film. With Disney currently devoting their energies to making live action versions of their old animated films, a new film series of Alexander’s masterful fantasy series will probably not be soon in coming. Also, John Lasseter of Pixar and now also Disney Animation Studios, was fired from Disney back when The Black Cauldron was in production, so he may not look too favorably on that series. But, we can hope, and also encourage Disney, and Lasseter, to revisit this gem.

Bartimaeus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud. A brilliant combination of fantasy and alternate history with some sci-fi worked in, I’m surprised that none of these books have been adapted to film yet.

The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. A rather creepy sci-fi story about the early life of Matteo Alacrán, a clone of a drug lord by the same name. This would be an interesting book to adapt, as it the plot keeps shifting direction. There is a sequel, which I have not read yet, so there’s that potential for adaptation as well.

That is the list that I’ve been running through my head. I also want to see Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, but since this is already is in production, with Kenneth Branagh announced as director, I don’t need to include it in the above list. Also, The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov is going to be released on HBO as a TV series, so that also doesn’t need to be on the list.
