Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old. Micah 7:18-20
Micah closes out his prophecies with the above statement – words of praise to God, because he knows what God will do in the future. This is the Christmas season, a time when Christ’s incarnation is memorialized. But what was the purpose of Christ being incarnated as a human? His reason for becoming one of us? To show us mercy and compassion – he saw our struggles, our inability to do the right thing and worship God, and he came to earth to save us from that. Through his death on the cross as the perfect human, he atoned for our sin. Keep that in mind this Christmas season: As a follower of God, no matter what wrong you do, it has already been forgiven. You don’t have to live a life of sin and despair – we have hope for a future with God forever, and the Spirit of God empowering us to do the right thing and worship God.
